Only at the end after several key victories did the French enter the war. I will admit that the French defiantly secured American independence 100%, but the US still did a lot. Thank you France *choke *gasp lol

It is hardly the biggest flop in history. It is pretty hard to mobilise an army when your mainland is over 5820 miles away and then fight the French on the seas at the same time. It would be interesting to go into a parallel reality and see what the world is like if GB kept hold of America though. What a better place it would be

Um... The first battle of the war (Lexington and Concord), and Saratoga (I assume the battle you're talking about) BAM, theory debunked.... I didn't even have to wikipedia this one. As much as I hate Washington, there was enough stuff going on throughout the country that other generals were able to occasional able to secure victory despite his incompetence

Last I checked the Persians steamrolled the Spartans... You have been reading to much Herodotus.

I just read some stuff about the battle, and the Persians lost a massive amount of men, and eventually beat the Greek alliance by outflanking them (a Greek traitor showed Xerxes a mountain pass that would help outflank the phalanx), so you couldn't really call it a steamroll. Numbers were most likely around 4000 Greeks versus 250000-300000 Persians.

The Battle of Thermopylae was inconsequential in the greater scheme of things. I have little doubt that allied Greek force led by the spartan caused a disproportionate number of casualties, not only were they most likely better trained, but also better equipped. The Persians won this battle and would have been able to take Greece just the same as if there were no Thermopylae. Hardly a great blunder.

He might've had the manpower to afford it, but sending so many troops right into a spear and shield wall does sound like a military blunder to me. Yes, they won the battle, so the end may justify the means, but losing so many troops (don't know exactly how many, but Xerxes apparently got pretty mad about his losses, so I don't think it was a small amount) to around 4000 men does qualify as a blunder to me.

Care to elaborate? Historically, the Poland Lithuania commonwealth dominated eastern europe for centuries. Poland has been a major power for most of its existence, and has only declined in the past century or so.
