    depends on type
i would rather have better gameplay on a strategy game (paradox games for example)
but would rather have better graphics for shooters (ex. COD)

Shooters practically live off graphics well today's shooters anyways. Crysis 2 is the best example it's the most beautiful looking game to date and it's one of it's main selling points.

Your right but it's original selling point was for benchmarking your PC, but now it's out on console and they've had make adjustments fo it to work on console i.e. turn the graphics down.
But on the PC it's a much better game.

If I can tell what's going on I don't care. Graphics are unimportant.

Yes but if you work too much into design and not into the story, gameplay, the characters involved in the game, the groups or 'factions'(depending on the Genre), and most importantly bugs, the game is doomed for disaster, thats why a lot of people criticize games like Empire:Total war, sure it had a huge fucking campaign, and the graphics were nice, but it also was missing essential parts to what make an excellent game.

It's all about art style really. IMO anyway.

Cause the game can have the best gameplay in the gaming industry but if you screw the art style for the game, it will be considered bad.

I am totally in to DF now thanks to Kalalfication and, hey, look at its graphics. Not the prettiest, but the game sure as hell kicks ass.

well im gona sound like a prick but if i look at a game and it has bad graphics it is a bit of a turnoff BUT if i have played the game before or if i have heard from friends that it is great or even watched friends play it then graphics generally dont matter as long as I can see whats going on and such.

Graphics are good for games that need them to be a success. For instance, Minecraft is an absolutely fantastic game with a ton of diversity, great gameplay mechanics and a descent multiplayer feature; all in all, you can have a great time regardless of how it looks.

On the other hand, a game like Crysis 2 really needs it's truly stunning graphics because...

    A) It's futuristic (duh).
    B) It's an FPS - new FPS's do generally require good graphics because...
    C) It needs to look realistic so that immersion in the story can happen quickly.

Without the graphics, sure Crysis 2 has the story and the multiplayer and the slight diversity of the FPS genre (which is a pretty limited one in terms of diversity imo), but this does not amount to a whole lot; certainly not enough to get enough people interested in it to buy it and have enough to populate the multiplayer significantly.

I can't wait for the DirectX 11 patch that will make the game look even better.
