So now I have decided to break away from Catholocism and become a reformed Christian. I now see that Hell doesn't exist. Why would people want us to believe that if we don't do what God says we will go to such an awful place. Thanks to Rico, Toast and many others for this insight. BTW I call the religion, Happiness in God.

So you're saying that all the bad people who's ever lived on this earth aren't punished? Hitler goes to heaven? That doesn't make any sense to me, sorry.

I'm pretty sure Purgatory doesn't exist..... nor is it mentioned anywhere in the book, as I recall....

Hell isn't mentioned in the Bible directly. The concept of a hell in Christian belief probably originated in Dante's Inferno. Gehenna a garbage dump outside of Jerusalem was the closest thing the Jews had to telling someone they would burn in hell. The bodies of those deemed unworthy of burial were dumped in the trash that was constantly burned to prevent overflow.

If you abandon all other aspects of Christianity and believe in God, there is nothing wrong with that. Casting off the veil of the church will ultimately benefit you, while you might still believe some of what you have been taught I urge you to find your own route to happiness. I don't like organized religion one bit. However, finding your own faith is something I actively encourage. I've already talked about The Brothers Karamazov and it's hard to overstate the effect that it's had on my view of religion.

I honestly don't understand the logic behind this. But, if it makes you happy, good for you.

Not seeing where you say you don't think homosexuality is a sin here. Quoted from his other thread.

Also this does not belong in the political section. Moving to philosophy.

What I meant was that I had just changed my beliefs to happiness to basically wipe out predjudice. I am not a very good explainer.

Edit: Technically this is a political matter because it could spread to others and cause a whole new religion.

Even Hitler firmly believed until the day he died that everything he did was the right thing. As fucked up as it seems to everybody else, Hitler genuinely believed that he was the good guy, and what asshole of a god would ever punish somebody for only doing what they thought was right? I'm not sure I would want to be with that God.

Religion is not a political matter, it is a philosophical matter.
