Yeah, but I feel safe in saying that North America is kind of the anti-anime and the vast majority of the population doesn't know what any proper anime titles are.

I don't know about that. Here's some facts and figures and whatnot:

Well, I shouldn't think that the vast majority of the population, who don't watch anime, would be aware of "proper anime titles."

All my friends think anime is ridiculous and full of porn. Which isn't far from the truth, but it's always the subject of a joke when somebody is flipping through Netflix, passes over the anime section, and sees a bunch of half naked cartoon women with over-sized tits and tentacle monsters. And of course they always associate it with those fags that wear Naruto clothing to school, and the creep who tries to look at softcore hentai on the school's computer during studyhall and get's hilariously discovered bu the old ass bitchy teacher.

So yeah it's got a bad rep to most Americans.

It's a medium, and the Japanese aren't really insecure about their sexuality. Gotta say though , in my school we don't have any outrageous anime people. We have a lot of people who watch anime but you wouldn't really know that unless you actually got to know them. I am currently in anime class in the mornings (an actual credit from the english department LOL) which just shows quality anime because the teacher is an enthusiast. Best , class, ever.

I'm going to miss how retardedly easy Canadian high school is in college next year.

Because the word for animation in Japan is anime, and we already have a word for animation in English. Anime in English denotes animation from Japan.

Well, Japanese people certainly do make a distinction between Western animation and Japanese animation. They're both animation, and so they're both referred to as anime, but only in the same fashion that we English speakers would refer to Western animation and Japanese animation as animation. I don't know the term, but Japanese people do have some kind of modifier that differentiates Western animation from their own, just as we do.
