Nonetheless of my mistakes, he was a quite good leader of his time.

He wasn't the greatest. I don't know who really is the greatest, but I think the greatest man changes from time to time. This is because I think the greatest figure in history should come from a country that is still very powerful, and should have helped it get that way. So, if the Roman Empire still existed then I would argue he was the greatest historical figure of all time, but it doesn't, so he isn't. He is a great historical figure though.

Why should that have any affect on the worth of Julius Caesar's accomplishments?

Not the worth of his accomplishments, but lets face it, how much do his accomplishments really matter now? The empire he created no longer exists, except for ruins here and there.

Well considerng how much that empire impacted the course of history, I'd say it's pretty important.

But would you call it as important as the US? I think we can safely say the US impacts the entire world, so the current most important historical figure is probably one of the founding fathers, Washington or Franklin, perhaps.

Well it's a matter of opinon. The Roman Empire has had countless reprecussions on the way our world is today, but then the same could be said for the British Empire or modern day America. I'd hade to agree that the US is more important today then the Roman Empire, but I don't think any leader of the US was as great a leader as Julius Caesar

The Roman Empire impacted the lives of even the freaking Chinese. It was not just people inside the empire that were affected. Also, the Roman Empire did not exist before Caesar.

How did it effect the lives of the Chinese? Wha I'm trying to say is the greatest historical figure of all time is relative to whoever is the geatest country right now. As I said, the US is the most powerful country, and so one of the founding fathers is arguably the greatest and most importnt in history for our time. Perhaps that will chage within this century even, but for now that is who I would consider the "greatest". Now, if you go into something like the best or your favorite leader or figure, the time period really has no significance.

If you don't have the Roman Empire, or if you don't have Caesar, Augustus, or Cicero, then the entire basis of what America is made up of would be completely different. Also, Roman traders traded with the Chinese.

Still doesn't make him the most important though! If you wanna use that logic, then the greatest political leader ever isn't Caesar of one of our founding fathers. Its one of the pharaohs, or perhaps an Abyssinian or Mesopotamian.

The greatest political leader was that guy who first said "Bitches lets build a city and call me god-king"

We based our entire government system off of the Roman Republic, predominately Cicero.

edit: so in that case, Cicero might be the greatest historical figure of all time.

Precisely. It all changes using that logic. So just stick with the greatest figure is the most important to the most powerful current country. And then you can come up with your own personal opinions on who's the most intelligent, you favorite, best leader, best at everything, most badass, etc.

But how would the current leader be the greatest historical figure.

Greatest historical figure of the current most powerful country. You're telling me George Washington and the other founding fathers aren't historical figures?

They are not the greatest historical figures. If there were no CIcero or Caesar, then George Washington and the other founding fathers would have never made America the way they did.

If there were no great Greek politicians, generals, and philosophers then Cicero and Caesar would never have been the same. If there were no great Egyptian politicians and philosophers then the Greek politicians and philosophers would never have been the same. If there were no Mesopotamians or Abyssinians then the Egyptians would have never been the same. Etc.

My whole point is though, that if you were to go by your logic, then the person or people who influenced the founding fathers are the people who are the most important in history. It doesn't matter who influenced them, because the founding fathers didn't care about the people who influenced Cicero.

But Cicero wouldn't have been the same person if he wasn't influenced by others.
