Cicero was not directly influenced by the Greeks.

Yes he was. He was given lessons in speaking from a Greek philosopher. He went from terrible unconfident speaker to one of the best speakers in the republic.

The Greeks were Romanized by this point.

And this Greek philosopher would have been heavily influenced by former Greeks nonetheless.

He would have been educated in a more Roman way.

With Greek influence. Not to mention this "Roman way" was already heavily influenced by the Greeks.

I think its foolhardy to say that any one man ever truly influences anything. Caesar, for example, couldn't have done anything without the help of his Legion. And Genghis Khan, nothing without his horde. History is shaped by the many, not by the few. Also, long live the Youtube Revolution.

Well the problem with that is, without the leadership of those men neither the legions nor the horde would have be able to do anything. Hell, without Caesar his legions would not have even been formed and without Genghis, the horde would not have existed. Both of these men were extremely unique individuals with incredible talents. While their men certainly helped them, Caesar was giving the orders, planning the campaigns and leading them and so the credit is his, just as he would be blamed if his legions were destroyed. That is benefits and risk of being a leader, you are praised for successes and blamed for the failures.

I don't think we should compare them. They came from such different eras, that I think we shouldn't really try.
They were both the best leaders of their times, for sure. Lincoln, greatest politician in the 19th century, and the greatest president we've ever had. Caesar, had brilliant campaigns and took power of possibly the greatest empire ever. But Lincoln guided us through an incredibly bloody civil war (2% of the population died) with great skill, and if you have read Doris Goodwin's Team of Rivals, you know how amazing he was with the formation of his cabinet, and how he kept a divided administration together and working very well. He did pretty well with military manners, though he suffered from awful subordinates at the beginning, and he had to deal with Southern sympathizers who were in the war department who leaked information. He just had to deal with a lot of crap, but so did Caesar. Their talents just were in different areas.
Edit: When I say he "just" had to deal with a lot, I mean in general.

Yeah..... I'm really not happy about that. I feel like us ignorant americans are gonna be like "Abraham Lincoln? Isn't he the guy from that crappy vampire movie?"
    :( It's ruining his image.
