RIP. It's sad to hear things like these, not hearing heroic stories anyome from the bravest men on this mudball we call home, these are the affects of time passing.

Reminds me of my great grandfather's death. He was a WW2 comabattant for 2 years or so.He died in 2010 and I'll never forget that day.

In most of my US History classes, you spend a day on World War I at most two days. Now what you mostly talk about is how the US was neutral in 1914 and tried to stay out of the War. Then you talk about how Germany started sinking US ships and about the Zimmerman Telegram. Next we talk about how the US declared War on April 6, 1917 and last we talk about the treaty of Versailles (you don't talk about the fighting). On the other hand in the World history classes I have taken you spend a week on World War I. (Note that this is about my public school education not College.)
Edit: On another note because this is about World War I veterans, my Great-Grandfather was in the US Army in World War I.

I still think it's weird how a Dutch history class (the Netherlands stayed neutral) pays more attention on WWI than a US class. Why do you have classes on just US history anyway? Is it to call for patriotism or something? We only have one class called "geschiedenis" (history).

*French accent* Never because he is Napoleon.
I don't really don't know, maybe it is patriotism or maybe because throughout most of US History (1776-1917) the US wasn't that important on the world stage and they want to make sure we learn about that part of the US's History. How it works here is that in Middle school you have one year learning World History and two learning US History. Then in High school you have two years learning World History, one year learning US History and one year learning about US Government and Economics.
