Congress pays them and they swear an oath to defend and uphold the constitution, not an allegiance to the president.

The point Tere is making is that in Martial Law, the President can just tell Congress and the Supreme Court to fuck themselves. As well as the people, if he's so inclined.

And the point I'm making is, congress can say, okay, well good luck paying the military if you're going to do that.

Also, if the president issues an order that is against the constitution it is an unlawful order and service members not only are not required to follow it, but required to disobey it.

US DOD budget in fy 2010: 663 billion
Richest man in the world: Carlos Slim Helu, 74 billion
Obama's net worth: around 10.5 Million

@Unholy, thats a good point, the national guard swears a dual allegiance to both the president and the governor of their state. So you have to figure there are about 500k active duty troops and 600 reservists, so it's not an insignificant number

Not to mention that Defense Budget would go wayyyy up if you just mobilized. It's like in Crusader Kings when you levy armies.

    ???
I said it was like the game, and the game is very accurate in that sense. If you mobilize a shitton of people your budget is strained thin. That's hardly a ridiculous statement.

He's the president. Not the fucking king. He's restricted by constitutional law, the other two branches, and the local state governments.
Anyways this is retarded. Stalin isn't bound by law to listen to your opinions or to appease you. End of story
