Occasionally I'll sew them together to form a mega-sock, give it eyes, and sit it across from me at the dinner table. I'll imagine a happy family, without violence or abuse. I sit it down in the seat next to my father's, holding his body with the skin still attached, and the screams in my head muffled by my new found happiness. The graveyard dirt still fresh, its smell filling my nostrils as the doorbell rings and the police arrive for this week's round questioning. Tonight we're making soup, and the officers take big bowlfuls, laughing, unaware of their rotting insides. The adventure begins anew while they twist in pain, and I grab the shovel...I grin at the thought of new family members!
