Sound reasonable enough, but I thought the unwritten rule with you guys was to drop a warning before taking action? Honestly I kind of like Pedro's idea of turning the thread into a place for ironically respectful goodbyes to Soviet.

No-one issued any official warnings, that unwritten rule does not apply to thread locking. It applies to stuff like double posting and minor rule breakings such as that, before we go ahead with an official warning.

My one and only sc2 game begs to differ.....

Basically, I left the thread open as a place for people to say their goodbye's to Soviet. I made careful to demonstrate that any goodbye's should be done in a respectful manner, as the previous pages demonstrated what can happen when they don't. If anything it represents a collective failure on our (the staff's) part that no one was there to stop the insults form happening. Can't really fault anybody considering no one was online at the time.

As to Chelsea's comments, I don't think there needs to be any rules about mods posting after a locked thread. Typically we post in a manner explaining why we locked the thread, or summing up some of the key points and issues. As to her comment in this case, I don't really see it as insulting in nature, just explaining the type of dialogue that we (meaning the staff and not just her) would like to avoid. Could she have mentioned something about other people egging Soviet on? Yes, but it doesn't dramatically alter the point she was trying to make. Perhaps she went a little far, but realistically if any of you guys made similar comments towards another user it wouldn't really be considered insulting. We've never infracted anyone for stating that they lost respect for someone, so I don't think that anything Chelsea said was out of line.

So we're just gonna keep that thread locked (Its better off dead at this point anyway.) and try to avoid situations like this in the future? Sounds like a plan to me.

It's not so much an insult, as it behaves the same way. Soviet is given no chance to defend himself, or his ideals because she has posted in a locked thread.

Is there something about mods that makes them deserve to have the last word? Besides, an infraction is nothing.

    1. not this again kara! stop bitching at every little occasion! You constantly try to stir up the community against the mods, wich is bullshit.
    2. closed threads should stay closed! no need for multiple mods to post their oppinion in a locked thread. It just questions the decission of the locking mod and fucks with his authority if you fail to act on his behalf!
    3. Chelseas post was neither hateful nor insulting.

What Soviet said was to get attention before he left the forums... It's sad the way he left

So posting a thread that you're not going to be on over the weekend serves a different purpose? I think if people are leaving the site they should be allowed to say their goodbye's and if they so choose explain why they're leaving. If I were to suddenly decide to leave the site, wouldn't you guys like me to say something rather then just going off silently into that sweet night?

I have nothing with people posting a thread to say goodbyes but Soviet was just trying to get attention. If you do not believe me, just look at the title of the topic "Farewell Losers". I mean he is asking for it. Never got a chance to defend himself? He never tried. We asked him about 5 different times why he was leaving ad he refused to give an answer. And instead of giving an answer, started pulling a Che by insulting anyone who asked him a question. I had a lot of respect for Soviet but lost it all on that thread. And Chelsea's post was not insulting.

HE DIDN'T@T DEFEND HIMSELF BECAUSE HE LEFT THE FORUMS.

You just disagreed, then agreed with me, I think.

Again, situational example. You may believe it was a bad example, but it does not defer the arguement.

Which is why this thread is Page 3 in less than a Day, right?

Well a good start would be not naming the topic, 'Goodbye losers!'

If I ever post in a locked topic the likely reason is that I didn't notice it was locked.

Saying "goodbye loosers" isn't really offensive, and we've never infracted anyone for calling someone else a looser. You guys really escalated it, and maybe Soviet was looking for that to happen, but you guys if nothing else fueled the fire.

this is just gonna end up with extreme hate and hostilities towards the mods.

pedro, i think it would be best to lock this thread before it gets any worse.

That would be a 100% generated to negative opinions of staff members. So no, the thread stays open. (*sigh* At least until the wide-spread shenanigans start.)

Also, I don't see the point of this threadm Chelsea clearly didn't insult nobody nor was abusing the lock.
