Here is a thread for Paradox Interactive's series; Mount & Blade by Tale Worlds.

Mount & Blade is a single player role-playing, adventure game with medieval type warfare.

The first game in the series is the original Mount & Blade and was released in 2008.
It introduced us to the fictional lands of Clradia, split up by different factions.

Each faction is ruled by a leader, etc a King, and aswell these factions have vassals, etc Lords. These are commanders of armies.
In each faction there is a number of villages, castles and cities, owned by the faction leader and vassals.

In the first game there are 5 different factions:

    • The Kingdom of Swadia
      The Kingdom of Nords
      The Kingdom of Rhodoks
      The Kingdom of Vaegirs
      Khergit Khanate

Each faction has influences from historical civilisations and factions. For example the Nords reminds of the scandinavian vikings and Khergit Khanate reminds of the early asian nomads.

The game is very open and provides a sandbox kind of gameplay. It begins with you creating the background of your character and such. Then you get to chose a faction to start off in, you do not necessarily join this faction. You can be anything from a noble knight to a bandit, from a mercenary army commander to an owner of villages and towns. You can join a faction by proving yourself worthy and then speaking to a faction leader. You can then fight the factions which your faction is at war with and such. You earn experience and level up, and you gain points to put in different abilities and skills.

The game has a very comlex and wellmade fighting system. You may fight with several different types of weapons; One-Handed, Two-Handed, Polearms, Bows, Crossbows, Throwing weapons and ofcourse you may carry shields. You can fight from the ground and on horse, aswell as besiege, attack or defend castles and cities. The battles are quite enormous and you there will be hundreds and sometimes even up to thousands of soldiers fighting.

Mount & Blade: Warband is basically a polished and improved version of the first game. It contains everything the first game has plus alot more. It has improved graphics, AI and adds the option for you to become the leader of a facion. It also adds a faction; Sarranid Sultanate.

It also adds a Multi-Player gamemode, with a bunch of maps and gamemodes.

Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword will take the series further in time and will allow for muskets, rifles, pistols and such. It will add a story-line and new non-fictional factions. It will still use the same gameplay as the earlier games but will further improve it.

So there you go, I've played Mount & Blade: Warband constantly since release, I absolutely love the game. What do you think of the series?

Ive played mount and blade the original for so long, i eneded up joining the nords and conquering the vagiers then most of the swadians(i ran into a glitch at their last castle so when i assulted it my tower wouldnt show up) then i got kinda bored so i only conbquerd a small portion of the rhoduks. My brother played warband but i hated the new cavalry fighting(you hve a diffrent swing and its a bit more complicated) I might get the with fire and swords but idk.

i love the first two mount and blade games, and have gotten tons of mods for them, however, i dont think i am going to buy with fire and sword, as it just looks like another mod! if taleworlds wants to keep me as a customer, they are going to have to do more then make me pay retail price for a glorified mod. i want an engine update and something worth my time and money!

I do partly agree, but I heard rumors that it would not cost as much as a full retail game, I heard it would cost around 10-20 euros. Don't take my words for it though.

Yeah but the way the world market works it would most likely be alot cheaper in Northern America and perhaps in Great Brittain aswell than in the rest of europe. Say, 10-20 euros, 10-20 US and Canadian dollars and 10-20 pounds.

I'd like to see more government option than a kingdom. Suppose I want to lead a revolution and create a republic of some sort? I should be able to do so.

You can kind of lead a revolution in Warband. For each faction there is someone who claims the throne, and you can help this character to do it. I'm not sure how exacly it works as I've never done it myself but I doubt it's really what you were thinking of anyways.

he means form like a republican government instead of just taking the crown i belive. I helped the swadian revolution in the original and you need to conquer all the cities and sway as many of the swadian lords as you can to your cause. It didnt work for me though because i left the nords to help the swadians and i had beaten every single one of the swadian lords atleast 10 times in battle so only like 2 of them would even talk to me and then you get like 20 diffrent text options you can use to sway them such as money and greed and stuff like that you have to promise them somthing that has to do with their morals and they let onto their morals when you start talking to them about joining the cause.

I'm a huge fan of the M&B series, loving the mods as well, it's great seeing what people can do with the game engine.

I have both of the currently released games, enjoyed joining a community through the native of warband and then downloaded a mod called "Mount and musket" very enjoyable when you have people shouting through your headphones using Teamspeak.

Started enjoying the Vikingr mod too ... very fun indeed ;)

Ah yes the Warband online community is amazingly awesome. I used to be in the clan that created Vikingr btw, Einherjar (/Shieldings). I left a while ago though.

I'm still not sure about getting the new EP, just because there's already so much mods that are the same as what this looks like. probs still end up getting it seeing as M&B is one of my fav games.

there is a multiplayer mod that looks EXACTLY the same as the new game ... seems rather pointless to me.
