So you're implying that North Korea will have naval superiority and a crippling first strike capability?

As in fight to the end thinking, more or less.
Unless they are starving so they don't want to fight, the DPRK mil. might be disillusioned.

Well, considering they are starving already, during a war I think it would probably be much worse.

    1) Why in the world is there the assumption that post-nuclear, the US will suddenly decide that it is a good idea to invade N. Korea?
    2) Why would the South Koreans want to invade N. Korea? War creates destabilization in what is an already fragile economic situation. Add onto that the fact that N. Korea, while they probably won't WIN a war with S. Korea (even if S. Korea was on its own), they can still deal great amounts of damage.
    3) Yes there is suffering in N. Korea and oppression. Yes, under policy, it is something that the US would want to act on. But no, they probably won't. They have Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and the results of the revolutions in Northern Africa as well as the current economic crisis in Europe and the US itself to deal with. They have quite enough on their plates for the moment.
    4) China WOULD probably get involved. HOW they would is the better question. In recent times it has become clear that the ties between N. Korea and China have become strained. Regardless of what their military action would be, they would undoubtedly challenge the US on the floor of the UN and other international bodies.

And let the record show that it is a completely foolish line of thinking that the US can simply cut trade with China. That the opposition says "Oh, well, China is only third in trade with the US" just shows how much they are desperate to downsize China's importance in the US economy. The fact of the matter is is that China is very much important to the US economy and it would take much more propoganda than the US currently deals out to sway the US population into accepting a war that would completely turn their daily lives on its head. One does not simply just CHANGE to a new source of goods.

And the current hypothetical holds the US attacking N. Korea without provocation, which would trigger international backlash and not just from China.

@Imperial1917 , while I agree with your post, I just want to point out that the hypothetical had North Korea attacking South Korea, not the other way around.
