    A don't know i think a better irony for hitler is he narrowly avoids death in the first world war and during the Munich Putsch, where the guy next to him took the bullet. Then in the end of it he shoots himself! Then uses some of the last petrol in Berlin to have his body burnt in a ditch.

    Makes you think...

    Also back on the topic of the whole Hitler Youth thing I watched a documentry just today and in it they had an account of a nurse in a field hospital who found it hard treating German boys of age sixteen or so. I think in the end of it the deployment of boys was much more a psychological weapon than a truly affect fighting one.

    Interesting side note the Hitler YOuth SS Panzer Division came to clashes several times with their superors, when they started painting their girlfriends names on the side of their tanks instead of standard unit insignia.

    Giving the iron cross to a boy was only used to encourage the remainder to keep fighting and go forth and die for the Nazi horde. But yes Hitler did receive the iron cross by a Jewish leftenant that he saved.
