People often have difficulty figuring things out in Napoleon online. I don't know why. I've gotten quite good at it, accumulated over 300 hours to it and yet I didn't figure anything out now that I didn't know then. Couple of things to keep in mind:

    1. You need to understand this is a very infantry heavy game keeping with tradition of the time period. Your cavalry units can't be expected to solely win you the game, they are mostly used as a distraction force or to exploit weaknesses to cause chain routes. Do not rely on them too much.

    2. It is imperative that you win the skirmisher fight. The skirmisher fight allows you to move on to the main line of the opposition without your main line even being engaged yet or if you so choose to fight alongside your main force as you duke it out with the opposition's main. Now if you don't win the skirmisher fight? You need to plan accordingly. Hit the flanks of their main with your main, it'll force them to shift their lines and then try to go in for a cavalry assault on their skirmishers. But do not just stand there, that will spell disaster.

    3. Spread out your units! To get the maximum amount of firepower from your lines you need to spread them out. Now obviously it can be advantageous to sometimes have them clumped like if you want to do a charge downhill, but most of the the time spreading out your units is necessary to do the most amount of damage.

    4. Flank wherever possible. This is the most absolute way to win. Find the weakness in your opponent and overwhelm them. Do what I like to call, "rolling up the flank." Destroy the flank and keep making your way until you turn your opponent inside out. If you're being flanked? Pull back, just buy yourself time and have a plan to outdo the opponent.

I'll likely add more to this later, go ahead and feel free to add anything.

Or just play Rome and use more than that one tactic.

If you like overpowering cavalry, uneven units and fights that last usually less than three minutes then yes Rome is for you!

I love Rome but Rome vanilla, even online, is absolutely awful. I long for the day of a Rome 2.

And wow I need to get going to work. :s

Who the fuck wants to watch his units stay stationary and shoot at eachother for half an hour? In Rome you use something called TACTICS. Each faction is good for different things, and the variety in the units is very large. Unlike in NTW, where all the factions are the same except for minimal changes to each faction's units.

Have you ever even played 3v3 in Rome? It definetly doesn't last for three minutes, and if you rush (like it seems is the only thing you do), you're as good as dead if your micro isn't really good.

I suppose you're entitled to your opinion but it certainly hasn't been seen as such by the overwhelming majority of both the critical and popular gaming community.

Still, it is more fun to play battles with meele units online than with men that yes for the most part do just stand their shooting each other for thirty minutes, with a few glorious moves here and there, although i do have to admit u do need a good strategy to ein, but not as good as playin a barbarian vs rome faction on rtw. It isnt that hard in napoleon to win against a major faction with a minor one unless its the united netherlands who have absolutely no good units lol.

Now, I haven't played any of the TW games online, but having played Rome, Empire and Napoleon, I must say that in the latter two games, cavalry seems so unresponsive. When I issue an order, they go into the direct opposite direction sometimes, it's really weird...

But, for standard Napoleon tactics, what army composition and deployment would you suggest?

That's because they only played it for a day and then wrote the review. I too enjoyed it for several days. But after about a week I got incredibly bored with it. Now I just can't bring myself to play it.
