Like what at who you have elected governor. You also have an almost entirely republican controlled government which doesn't help. It also says in my textbook that the Southern states of the U.S. are backwards.

Just to throw it out there, I don't consider myself as Republican.

All the alternatives we're bat-shit-insane/Democratic equivalent.

    Blame gerrymandering.

We don't really do the whole "Southern Pride" thing here. We prefer our Texan roots.

To be fair, most 30 and 40 year old's in any country wouldn't know what those terms mean. People from the Southern US aren't inherently stupid, or right wing. Cultural psychology and all. My theory is that if everybody in the US (Or any other country) suddenly knew what socialism was, there would be a revolution tomorrow.

Could you sum up socialism in a few sentences for me; our textbook spent about a paragraph of unfocused detail on it before cutting to all of the wonders of capitalism.

Basically, socialism = The means of production (Economy, and thus the government) is controlled by the people, and abolition of economic class (Upper/Middle/lower). Pretty much all socialists believe in free healthcare, education, and housing, and a lot of us (More specifically communists/anarchists) believe that stuff like food, water, electricity/internet, and pretty much everything that is essential to a mentally/physically healthy life should be free.

Most of us are generally anti war/pro isolationism, pro workers rights, and pro human rights.

I like Stalin, and I believe the image that is painted of him in the media is false. If he was really like that, I would have hated him.

Also, The Shaw believes in an ideology which basically teaches that Somalia is a democratic paradise. So yar.

So socialism is to economy as democracy is to governmental power (or was supposed to be).

Well, socialists believe in democracy. We believe that democracy cannot exist in a society where people are divided into economic classes. (The government will always value the opinion of one super rich person above 100 super poor people). So, we want to create a society where everybody is equal, and where everybody has an equal say in the running of the country.

Basically shaw, and I explained this the other day, the figures don't at all add up. The US claims 60 million people were killed by stalin, Russia claims 6 million, UK 30 million, Australia 20 million, and the far-right conservatives in our countries claim up to 120 million. In 1917, the population of russia was 187 million, and in 1949, it was 194 million. Now, 10 million died in the russian civil war, 30 million died in ww2, around 15 million died of natural causes, so let's go with the 60 million figure the US claims Stalin murdered.

Taking into account also that the US claims that between 9-20 million people were in the gulags at any given time, EVERY SINGLE russian person aged 1-80 would have had to have been paired up, and have had between 30-50 children in a space of just over 20 years. This is taking into account also post war immigration, the merges of estonia/latvia/lithunia and the polish and romanian territories.

Physically impossible, as are the lesser 20/30 million claims by Britain and my country. Just half the figures (15-25 children), and it is still absurd.
