Tribal total war. Play as the Mongols, the Songhai, the Aztec, the Incas, the Mamluks, or the Swahili coast. Forge your empire from the weakness of warring tribes, from the ashes of tribal life you shall create an unstoppable nation. Can you develop fast enough to compete with the more advanced nations, or crumble under the weight of technological inadequacy? that's the commercial that just ran through my head. the time span I'm thinking of lasts from like 1400-1700, or somewhere around there. Long enough to get every empire into the map, and for each empire to have (historically speaking) met the "civilized" powers
An empire doesn't mean it isn't a tribal group. The Mughals of India were tribesmen who overthrew the Raj kingdoms (I should add the Mughals actually, they fit well into the category), yet they ran an empire. The Mongols were tribesmen, as anyone could tell you, and they conquered a tremendous empire. The Songhai as well, save the few major cities, lived as tribesmen. The Aztec and Inca were tribesmen initially, but developed major cities (some could argue that despite the cities they were still tribal), the Mamluks were one of the more civilized groups, but they are still considered tribal because they never developed any major cities, instead living in small oasis villages for the most part, and the Swahili were a collection of city-states loosely held together by a common language and trading partner.
The Aztecs and Mayans are playable factions in the Kingdoms expansion to Medieval II (along with some other tribal cultures). As part of the Americas campaign. You have to fend off other local rivals as well as the powerful Spanish. The French and English even make later appearances in the campaign. They are both really interesting factions to play as but the Mayans are my personal favorite. So a TW game focused on powerful tribal empires certainly could have potential. They did a good job on that expansion and it was several games ago so I would imagine it could only get better.
Personly I would like to see whet they could do with a WW setting but it's got to be rome 2, for the fans if nothing else

quote limit reached so @glodraz. Yes and no. The warpath Campaign expansion focused on the 5 I think distinct cultural groups of Native American tribes. It has similar aspects, however these tribes were never empires.
Total war set approx in the 1870 to 1910 timeline. The franco prussian war,Austro italian war etc in europe. The sudan campaigns, italy somalia war, zulu war and boer war in north and south africa. The opium wars in china. The ACW. all the above can be intresting to play and doable in total war style ? ACW is set in 1861 to 1865 if set time period from 1845 onwards then you can include Mex American war and crimea and indian mutiny ?
Greece: Total War. Similarly to Shogun 2, they should confine the mao only to Greece and Macedonia (including of course the islands and a tiny bit of Asia Minor) and make the map incredibly detailed. The game could take place anywhere from 1000 to 300 BC effectively. Its perfectly tailored to toal war, there are many factions and constant war. Its also historically balanced. Sparta ruled in pitched battle but the Athenians ruled the waves etc. Just imagine the histoical scenarios they could include. Imagine reliving the siege of Troy, struggling through Leonidas's last stand at Thermopylae, and razing Thebes to the ground as Alexander. That would be super epic. I actually wrote an email to CA (i know they probably haven't read it, but it has alot more info and ideas) I can post it here if any wants me to.
It seems like Empire total war is the most disliked TW game. Why? In my opinion Rome and Empire are the best total war creations.Empire is awesome for a couple of reasons:1-the time period is very interesting( i guess this applies only to a certain group of people) and second the campaign map is huge. I love the diversity, you can fight in Europe, Africa, India, North and South America. Of course Empire was released with many bugs both on the campaign map and on the battlefield, the unit choice was also very poor. These issues can be fixed by just installing Darthmod(in case you do not know darthmod is one of the best mods for empire. It fixes all the stupid bugs, makes the AI more aggressive, adds new units for all nations and so on and so on) On the topic the next total war will definitely be Rome 2. I'm also hoping for a total war that is a mix of Empire and Napoleon. With the large campaign map from empire and the polished battlefield system in Napoleon they can pull out a masterpiece! The game will be set in the 1700s again, but will also include Japan,China, more of South America. What do you guys think? In my head this is a great idea
In my opinion, EMpire and Rome revolutionized total war. Empire brought into effect raiding trade routes, naval battles, and the system of farms and what not outside of cities to be raided. Not to mention, it showed that total war was more than capable of making a total war game in the musket age. Just like Rome added 3D battles, 3D campaign map, and all the stuff that is common in total war games today
now, This one is an obscure idea, but i've been thinking CA should make this for a while now. Everyone Loves the Mongols, right? So, why not have Khan: Total War? it starts kinda with a centralized map on Mongolia, Playing as one of the Mongol Tribes (Temujin's Tribe, Uighirs, Kara-Khitai, etc.) until you unify them all, then the map opens up to all of Eurasia, and you try to, well, Conquer the world. I think, however, the campaigns Could Have to be broken up into "China", "Middle East" and "Europe" Campaigns, but i supose the all of Eurasia one would have to be the "Grand Campaign" , also, they could put in more Loot options like Burn all Infrastructure, and more things for Scorched earth, and possibly looting women I think a Total War Revolving around leading a Mongol Tribe to Dominate, Rape, Pillage, and Rule THe world, would be awesome. However, the most realistic next one would be Rome 2.
