Could you put that in a spoiler please. Also all of the statistics about natural resources I read the Congo is never even near the top.

And at Matt Chris, DR Congo is actually a Democracy, and not a Dictatorship.

Yeah, kind of like how Egypt was a democracy. You know. A non-functioning one. Things are getting better since 2006, but calling them democratic is still a stretch.

Nope. The UN says it is a real democracy.

Errr yes. The UN also said Egypt was a democracy. Fixed elections, paying off warlords, fudging the constitution =/= democracy. Things are getting better but they still aren't as good as any western democracy.

Well I didn't say that. I said their elections are democratic, not that their officials aren't corrupt. Also, I think it's hilarious about how off topic we got! :D

In theory, yes, they are democratic. But there is so much bullshit that goes on behind the scenes that it is a really more of "I have more guns than you, so I am leader" sort of deal.

Who would have guessed that allowing tribal warlords to keep power would mess up democracy?

Meh, other living things besides people don't matter. I'd rather have a bigger GDP than a useless variety of pigion.

People sure, whatever. It's the Congo's fault for turning their country into a radioactive dump, theoretically.
Besides, it's a big Congo. They can just dig a hole in the rain forest or something.

This is just wrong. You know plants are living things too right. Guess what living thing gives out oxygen (which btw if you did not know is what we need to survive). Also, if you dont care about other living things than I guess you dont care if all the animals went extinct eventually do to hunting and or global warming (I no I am exaggerating but you get the point)

Plants are living things?! Now what shall I eat? Bah, it's okay, i'm not one of those animal rights hippie kind of vegetarians anyway. I just go with what my mum said - 'I don't wanna eat anything that shits itself'

Edit: Oh, sorry. Back to nuclear power plants

Wait, so if we breed a cow that can't feel pain will you be fine if we brutally stab the shit out of it and eat it's raw flesh?

It might not even be that hard if genetics and all that fun stuff.

Do I have to repeat myself for the millionth time? We could log the whole Amazon and be perfectly fine. Just because they're living things does not mean we should give them life as a vegtable at the expence of Human Suffering.

I don't as long as Humans are still well fed, hydrated, and happy.

How is cutting the rain forest goign to stop human suffering and also those trees give us oxygen if you cut down the rainforest the oxygen content of the air will be significantly reduced.

You really dont know what cutting down the entire rainforest would do to global warming and the oxygen in the atmosphere do you?

And do you? I mean, they're constantly fixing their calculations because they missed or overlooked some data, who knows, it might even be better. On some parts, I agree with Karakoran that at least in those African countries, you should first improve the economy and the living standard of the humans who live there, and then think about protecting the rare blue striped duck "Anas Quackus Whogivesacrappus". There's no reason to dump the nuclear waste there if we have safe ways to deal with it, though.

And on the subject this thread actually is about: There indeed are waste disposal facilities. The waste the plants produce is quite compact, and copper is pretty much all you need to keep out (or in) the radioactivity.
The plants in Japan were indeed built in the wrong spots, but I think I read somewhere the modern plants shut themselves down as planned when the earthquake (which was the strongest one in years, wasn't it?) hit. The ones that gave trouble were outdated plants that were already scheduled to be demolished.

Also, France recently announced they would spend another billion into nuclear energy, and 1,5 billion into alternative energy. For a country like France, I think this is a very good move. Geographically, France is a very stable country, so it's perfect for nuclear energy, as virtually nothing can happen to the plant. Germany is another example, but they chickened out of it, even though it's another very good location. Here, in the Netherlands, I think there's one plant right now, but seeing as it's the second most densely populated country in the world (not counting city-states and the like), if things go wrong, you've affected pretty much the entire population.
