What I mean is we need someone or something to destroy the barriers between humans politically religiously etc.

Impossible. The only thing I can think of at the moment in fiction that brought world peace is in Watchmen where New York had to be nuked in order to solve world peace.

I should watch watchmen to make an argument for that, but I'm not much of a movie person.
    2. It is entirely possible to conquer humanity into equality, or at the very least, a large group of people.
    Ex. China, Japan

I was more speaking the entire world. I mean, of course I believe that it could be possible to make a force to take the whole world, but I don't see that happening in the near future. If one did reach that force, then the exact opposite would happen, the world would be plunged into chaos and everyone would be killing each other. Also, read the Graphic Novel for Watchmen first. It came before the movie and it has a lot of details that aren't in the movie.

I think one of 4 things will happen: 1.Humanity will become a space-fairing species while still in a divided state, with different nations keeping to their own section of the galaxy (such as during the colonization of America).
    2. Some time in the future, a massive kick-ass military nation will rise to power and... lets just say own all the things.
    3. Aliens will visit us and guide us to a stable, space-fairing state, and we will be these alien's allies.
4.Humanity is doomed. Big war/environmental collapse/ not-so friendly aliens.... The End

If the aliens were hostile why wouldn't they let us kill each other off and then re colonize? Also, what about an Xcom esque situation?

The only way that humanity would ever unite into one nation, would be if we all had a common enemy who threatened us all equally. One nation trying to conquer the world would not work(at least not anywhere in the near future), because the balance of power that exists between nations and the numbe of nukes in every major powers hands, would make it nearlly immpossible to conquer the world without a nuclear apocalypes happening.

Like what sparticus said, only the nations of Earth are working together through funding rather than mutual alliances.

We don't need a world nation but a world government completely integretated without any racial segregation. If you ask me, this is what the planet is heading toward. You can already see early formations of this with the IMF, UN, EU etc etc.

But that is the thing though, there are so many groups that it won't just be countries fighting each other anymore, it will be whole groups fighting whole groups. Which leads to much more bloodshed.

Ah, you're assuming we live in a Star Trek universe where every single sentient alien race looks like humans with lumpy foreheads. I suspect any real-life extraterrestrial life forms will be so different from us as to make any kind of interaction extremely difficult, if not impossible.

As for the one world thing, nationalism would kill that idea stone dead. It's a major reason why so many Europeans dislike the EU.

We'll probably form (basically) a massive EU eventually. No NWO sadly.

i love the idea of a global government, a one-world nation if you will. i think its the next step in human evolution and required if we are to have any success in colonizing the galaxy.i don't get why people fear it so much and think a global government is some "illuminati" plot to kill us or something.

I personally dont think we will be able to unite the world under one banner and maintain it for very long. To me its a large amount of countries unified under one big alliance. That would be more possible then one country controling the entire world.
