I find picking a religion out of a crowd of religions based upon my immediate communities decisions before me to be a really ill conceived way of claiming I totally understand the universe and it's creator.

The mere concept of organized religion is pretty ridiculous. It's not that I'm denying a god could exist, I'm simply stating that picking one idea over another based on your cultural surroundings and no factual basis is not logical.

In other words, I have no beliefs. I just exist to live in agony as I watch people make irrational choices. No need to rage at this comment religious people, I suffer enough all ready.

Yes we should, you have no right to tell anyone else what to do with their body. Get over yourself.

    1. Never stated my opinion, I'm actually for the legalization of all drugs.
    2. I was pointing out an inherent fallacy in an argument by pointing out the conclusions that could be reached with the same thought process.
    3. Your argument against my perceived conclusion is also based on the same fallacy. ie: Your statement would allow for children to have sex with adults if they wanted to. I mean, its their body, amirite? /endsarcasm
    4. You fail, and I hope the religious peeps come troll you :O.

I believe the song Saviour (Vox) by VNV Nation can sum up my feelings on religion adequately.

    A God of love
    A God of care
    A God of hope
    A God of words
A God as lost as you and blind
To fill your hollow soul again
You seek a God to stand above you
    Wrapping healing arms around you
You'll find another God of pain
A God of suffering and tears
    Give yourself unto your God
    Sacrifice yourself again
Burn your thoughts erase your will
To Gods of suffering and tears
Tie hallowed bonds around your hands
Kneel before this seat of shame
    To Gods as lost
    Gods as blind
    Gods of suffering and pain

    You'd probably like this then.

    A god in wrath Was beating a man;
He cuffed him loudly With thunderous blows
That rang and rolled over the earth.
    All people came running.
    The man screamed and struggled,
And bit madly at the feet of the god.

    The people cried,
“Ah, what a wicked man!” And —
    “Ah, what a redoubtable god!”

    Stephen Crane.

I am an Atheist & I am also an agnostic. Since one relates to belief and the other to knowledge.

Thats not really related to our beliefs.

Anyway. Atheist here. I just cant believe in a god as illogical as the Christian one. Atheism is just simply the better choice for me.

The thing about atheism (and indeed most religions) is that they think that God has to be some old guy in the clouds who is controlling everything, who has a hand in all events, and therefore there cannot be a god as there are still problems in the world. That is a rather immature view on god. I like to use the Baha'i god as an example of my beliefs; the idea that "God" is too great for people to comprehend, and as such there is no purpose in trying to define or make sense of god, other than to put down those who have differing views, and to cause deeper separation among people.

I fear that by answering to that I would be derailing this thread. Do we have any other threads where we can keep going, Id love to answer to that.

I agree with you, The Shaw. I like to think of god as something like that. I cannot say precisely what, but perhaps something like god is all good in the world, or god is time, or... god is everything, in which case what I mean is that god is kinda like the next bigger thing than the universe or something, which would be impossible to even imagine or have the slightest clue to what it would actually mean. Either this or that god is basically a metaphor for something.

Im Agnostic closer to believing in god.
Humans must believe in something so that life would be easier at least a little bit,and I do hope god exists.

Oh, trust me, so do I.

Naw, personally I never thought it like that. Sure, as it says in the "good" book, God created mankind in his own image, which implies that God looks like us, and perhaps even is like us. But that explains the mental image anyway, its right there in the holy book.

Thats one of the reasons I simply cant, nor really want to, believe in God. If a being so good and almighty has the power to end all suffering in the world, whats holding him back? Ive heard an explanation that all the suffering in the world is simply testing our belief. I call bullshit. All the proof I need is God giving me a bitchslap and saying "Ho, Im right here, now start believing or Imma roast your arse". But noooo, lets be all mysterious and borderline evil. Much more fun for the whole Christian African family starving regardless of their prayers.

Considering blind beliefs, it doesnt really float my boat. I like to base my beliefs on provable facts. I dont know if thats just me, just seems like the logical thing for a human to do. Then again, there are a lot of religious people still around, but then again, when has humanity acted logically?

    You asked for it.

I'm a Methodist and I believe in a God but I don't believe every thing the Bible says. I feel that people have to get their own meaning out of the Bible. I also feel that their is no such thing as the "right religion" and if you choose not to believe in god thats fine with me. To me one of the most annoying things is when someone trys to push there religion on you. People need to find out what they believe on their own.

Atheist. I don't believe in something that can't be proven. I know it's impossible to prove or disprove existence of God, but at the moment I find it less than likely that a God exists.

    Yeah, no thank you.
Sure, I'll wear this tiny metal Holy Cross around my neck, get together with my family at Christmas, Easter and other holidays, but I honestly do not see a point in going around complaining, arguing and trying to convince people to think the way I do. I've ran it through my mind already, and that's where it stayed.

Uh ok, what about all the other religious beliefs? Christianity is only a third, you know.

I havent really conserned myself with other religions. Islam is pretty much identical to Christianity anyway, but I always found Buddhism interesting. An atheistic religion, that has a heaven but I dont think had a hell. Intriguing, but still, I dont believe in afterlife either.
