Yes, ignorance/intolerance of the beliefs of others is worse and the main cause of problems, whether by the religious or non religious. Simply saying you're an atheist would suffice. No need to be insulting in this thread about it.

I completely agree with Chelsea. Judge people on their actions, not on their beliefs.

How is this not an insult:
"millions of people worshiping a zombie" seems like an insult to me. Maybe you think it's normal if people say that shit to you, but it's not normal to me.

Heathen kill him, nah its fine im orthodox my self.

But now this gives me the opportunity to present something that happened in my A.P class.

Background: Where debating the Byzantine empire and Iconalism, and the great schism
    Teacher "Well im Catholic"
    Student " Your....Catholic?"
    Teacher "Why yes i am"
Student " Well im gonna go pray for you"
Teacher "Oh thank you, that is so nice of you"
Student "Oh its not a good thing"
    Teacher *Puzzled* "Its not"
Student " No your catholic which means your going to burn in the fiery pits of hell, you satanic worshiper."
Teacher *face of what the fuck did he just say"
Student " So that's why im praying for you, so that the true christian god has mercy on your soul, so you better repent and read the bible or else god will kill you and sent you to hell"
    Teacher ".....the fuck"

Oh that class makes me lol so much (like the time with Mr. top hat)

The average Orthodox church session is very long ranging up to six hours, tough usually its four.

First the Orthodox church much like the Roman church considers its self to be the true apostle church as laid out by the twelve apostles and the lord Jesus Christ. However it follows the Orrignal Nicran creed and its the

One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic church
It is one because unlike the Roman Catholic church it has not had any split, yes you do hear Serbian or Russian Orthodox but there all united unlike the protestant groups or roman catholic
We are Holy because it was the church founded by Jesus christ
We are Catholic which means universal hence we are one
We are Apostolic because the 12 Apostles founded are church.

    Now on to more differences

*Unlike the Catholic church, the Holy Orthodox church does not change its teachings or practices what you see before you is the same that was done 100 hundred, 500 hundred, to the times of Jesus Christ
    * We disagree with Papal infallibly and say that only the lord can have this as he is the true head of the church, we do have a leader but he is only a first among equals and has no sway.
    * Teaches that all Bishops are equal
    * Following the Holy Fathers, the Orthodox Church holds that when Adam sinned against God, he introduced death to the world. Since all men are born of the same human stock as Adam, all men inherit death. Death means that the life of every human being comes to an end (mortality); but also that death generates in us the passions (anger, hate, lust, greed, etc.), disease and aging.
    * We reject the false worship Catholics have of the virgin marry.
    * We venerate are Icons but do not worship them for that is for God and God alone
*When Catholics die they must go straight to there destination (scene Catholics heavy belive in original sin all pretty much go to purgatory) in the Orthodox faith they wait in a limbo like Hades to be judged and sent.
    * Next all Orthodox must do lent (some don't anymore)
    * Orthodox worship towards the east
    * God is in both heaven and hell for he has dominion everywhere and you can not be apart from him
    * Priest can get married
    * Divorce is allowed.
    * Gods existence is in us forever (But other then that where the same)

How false. Not only does the Catholic church only change it based on the changing definitions as time goes on (for instance, booty of war being changed to spoils of war), but the original translations are easily available.
God is the leader of the Catholic Church too, the Pope merely acts in his steed because God can't be bothered with micromanagement or something.
She's wildly known to have done a miracle and probably the largest one ever. It's certainly not "false worship" to pray to here.

*sigh* even here, nope can't be bothered. Maybe i did overstate the Virgin marry one, but the Orthodox church rejects the dogma of the papacy and the pope's infallibility.

But really the two churches are more alike then different, well we are sister churches.

My mom is kinda in a stew of different beliefs but right know her preference is Santa Muerte.

Ehh, I'm agnostic. Almost borderline atheist, but agnostic none-the-less. I grew up in a Christian home, was a believe for 10 years of my life and then... family... matters threw religion out the door for me. I was for a while a militant atheist due mainly to the, over extended efforts, shall I say, of Southern Baptists (mainly my last step mother) to reach out to my "lost soul". I've calimed down since then and try to keep an open mind.

I do however fell the need to do more research on different religion and find my position on them, and see if i want to convert. I'm doing the same thing to my economic and political views, its like a cultural revolution.

Tough naturally im not going to do all of them, but i'll do as many as i can.
