I think what has been established by this thread far from the 'hypocrisy of republic rhetoric' is the colossal flaw in judging a modern political party by the standards of its original heritage.

Yeah I never understood the old and new linkin park thing. They have great songs from both "old and new" linkin parks.

More like the 1960's, but I'm glad you caught that.

Because your looking at it with the party boundaries as they stand today.

I know that; I meant that republicans were seen as radicals because the conservatives of the time were the monarchists. And if no-one in the US supported monarchy, then it follows that the Republicans are the conservatives.

Everyone went to war with France because they were a republic, and Britain restored their monarchy, claiming that to be the only form of legitimate government. It therefore follows that republican Republicans were seen as radicals, and although they may have been thought of as as 'bad' as socialists by these people, they clearly have no connection whatsoever to socialism.

Failures for socialists, victory for those we now call Republicans.
I think all i've done is risen to your 'republicans were socialists' bait. But you get my point; there is nothing socialist about them, it's just that by European standards of the 19th century, a rebel-colony republic might as well have been the Soviet Union.
