Actualy if the arctic melts it doesn't matter because the ice is already in the ocean, so you wouldn't be raising the ocean level at all. If Greenland, Iceland, Antartica, etc. melted, because the ice is on the land, you would be adding more mass to the oceans causing them to rise.
Well, doesn't water have a higher density than water? If that's the case, wouldn't that mean ice melting in water would actually lower the sea level, or am I getting way off course here? It's been a while since I last had chemistry, so yeah... Oh yeah, we were reviewing people...pretty cool and smart guy.
No the point is that the mass of the ice is the same as water. It is like if you had two ice cubes with the exact same mass and put one into a glass of water and then melth the other and put the melted liquid into another glass the height of the water in each would be the same. So ice in the arctic is already floating in the ocean, making no difference to ocean levels. I hope to God that wasn't confusing. And you are also a cool, smart, and funny guy.
