Pretty much yeah, but Russia just one of those places where it needs a strong man to run the country forever and ever (until death) a democracy like the one in the united states would not work in Russia.

It's why Russia has been home to the Tsar (WOOT IVAN AND PETER), Josef Stalin (YES I KNOW HE WAS GEORGIAN) and now Vladimir Putin.

I honestly don't think the Russian people know what the Russian people want. Tough at the moment Putin is the best thing Russia can have, which is at last sad to say.

Maybe we are just not looking in the right place there are many unregistered parties in Russia that Putin never wants to see the light of day.

And those Parties will become the same thing they argue against, Russia is a political location where unless you have power and corruption your going nowhere. I'm going to take the time to quote something about the Congo which i believe works for Russia as well

" In the Congo (Russia), in order to survive, you need to be corrupt and ruthless. That's just the system here. The reality of things. If you don't bribe your way in or use some sort of force you will be thrown to the dogs, and someone who does will replace you. "

I don't believe that is true, all Russia needs is an alternative to Putin.

Well someone who not Putin's shadow cough Medvedev. But the russian system is designed to make sure who ever is the strongest willed wins and who can lie and cheat there way to victory, its allways been this way.

Putin will win a third and fourth term. after that he might just become Prime minster again.

Well isn't that what they announced they will do? 25% of the youth in Russia say they want to leave since Putin will keep getting elected.

25% are you sure? My god this is not good for the country cause it already has a decreasing population rate, a vast elder rate, a huge suicide rate, and high drug abuses. the country can not afford to have its future youth leave it. Putin is alot like FDR in a way.

Yeah I watching a video on Russia and it's youth. It said that 25% what to leave the country if they can go to somewhere else in Europe or North America so don't be surprised if you start seeing a lot of Russian immigrants. I see this as a plus to Canada if they a medical degree they will probably be let in without question.

My teacher has the same sort of view point " Russia a shit hole, where trying to make ourselves out to be the next big thing but where not, no one wants to live there its a cold place where the only thing to do is join the military or get high it sucks"

Russia it looks like will try to establish its "cold war" mentality on the world stage, and it will do this for a bit. However it will not last, and this time the collapse will be far worse then in 1991.

You absolutely hit the nail there, Viking. Russia under Putin is a managed democracy. Putin effectively uses the other parties by pressing forth Russian nationalism (which they can all agree to) by "reawakening the Bear," while steering debate so they can attack each other. A lot of Russians appear content with this arrangement, as they remember the political and economic chaos of the Yeltsin years, and like to see a strong leader at the top, steering the ship of state. A true opposition party to Putin and this framework is very hard to make public in Russia given the current political climate there and the amount of controls Putin has on the state and the media.

    During Putins "era" 2000-2008

    GDP doubled
Economy grew 7% a year on average
Its now 6th largest economy in PPP
    Industry grew 75%
    Investments 125%
    Income more than doubled
    Average salary increased over 800%
Consumer credit increased by over 45 times (2000-2006)
Middle class grew by over 700%
People living under poverty line decreased by half from 30% to 13% (USA 15%)

    Putin has my support

He's failed to deal with corruption in his country, even China is less corrupt from my knowledge. After Yeltsin's shitty presidency, is it any surprise that Putin is considered to be very successful?

Well the election watchdogs and opposition parties have said there is fraud. The Russian government also took down websites related to election watchdogs and opposition groups. There is also police officers on the streets so no one can protest it.
