    I like the SAS, but their mission in the British embassy came so close to failure.

    No but them taught not to feel pain by being beat with two by fours in training will.

    Improving with their acrobatics and have no fear in doing anything. When it's time they got in to a proper real time war scenario, then they'll be ready to show no fear against the enemy because of their brilliant training they do.

    Since this is an historical thread, I will go back in time to medieval times and nominate the Varangian guard, one of the first organised special forces in history. Not only did they bring with them the fighting prowess of the ferocious Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, but it also meant that they did not get involved in local politics, being from outwith the empire's borders.

    They proved loyal warriors and served in the Byzantine army right up until the 15th century.

    Ah rigid martial arts, the proven dominant form of fighting.... Hopefully the next time they get in a war they're opponents are shirtless and just stand there waiting for them to finish their intricately rehearsed combination...

    they pretty much function as britain's SWAT, anti-terrorism, paratroopers, special forces, etc.
    also id like to nominate those guys who stand still in their old uniforms around Buckingham palace and never move.....

    Those Red guards outside guarding buckingham palace are probably tough bastards, and well educated in Cambridge or Oxford University.
