I acctually remember playing the 1st of these games. It came out in Early 2003- but is still a game I play. I have the 2nd one that came out in 2005- but I was less existed.
you guys do realise star wars: the old republic is a MMO? i've been following the game for about 2 years, singed up as a beta tester and cant wait. also it has nothing to do with the KoToR universe, from what i understand, its about 500 years before or after, cant remeber which, since the time of kotor. it will have as much similarities to kotor as kotor did to the movies.
Sorry but i had to comment on this, it is SET in the KoToR universe, just 300 or so years after Reven, and they even made a quest with him involved so...that alone proves its set in that universe.
maybe, but what i ment is the characters u may like for kotor... are highly unlikely to be in it... honestly, what the storyline is i dont want to spoil it for myself or what quests are available, rather learn it myself.
I am for one not and completely dissappointed with Bioware when they decided to make an TOR rather then the trilogy to KOTOR, KOTOR 3 would of had me much more excited. Also, MMORPGS just completley and epicly fail, I hate the fact that you have to pay fucking monthly to play an game, like what kind of logic iss that? thats like if I bought a game from my local Gamestop but after that I had to pay them monthly for paying the game. I guess you can argue that there are Free MMORPGS out there but like I always say theres no such thing as a free sandwich, to experience really cool things and buy good stuff(Weapons, things of that nature) you have to have an premium account, also the 'free' MMORPGS take a shitload of time to download. So my Conclusion? When it comes to MMORPGS, they are nothing but scams created by big and greedy corporations trying to cheat you out of your money.
Meh, we have Dragon Age and Mass Effect for kickass RPGs. I think it's about time someone moved on from SW:G. And from what I've seen of TOR it's going to be pretty awesome.
each MMORPG aint always the same, i dont know the payment plan for ToR is, but still, they may be charging a fair bit, but the cost for servers aint cheap, and with maintenace, now im not saying it costs that much, they are a business and they look for a profit, every business does. who knows maybe ToR will finally do the "play to pay" where u pay for the time ur online, not monthly i hear rumorus about all over MMO forums. still as for KoToR 3, the plot has to been running dry for it eventually, what i was sad to hear is that they halted the production of battlefront 3 to make ToR. dont get me wrong i'm loving all i seen from ToR so far, but star wars: battlefront is a classic. people have different views, but it think they purpose of this topic is to talk about the game not moan about the monthly fee's of MMO's. speaking of which, the Republic or The Empire, which side will you choose?
Going Empire for sure, I want to do Inquisitor. After while of that I'll probably try out a Jedi Consular.
I played a demo at PAX, and I thought it was great. That said, I'm never going to play it. I don't play MMOs simply because I'm not willing to pay a monthly fee. Also, the only capable computer I own is shared by the entire family, and my parents don't take kindly to me spending hours on end using it.
The counter argument to that would be the costs of actually running and maintaining the game throughout the world. I have played WoW in Vanilla and the first expansion and they were pretty good to play, but they just got boring very quickly. It is the only MMO I have ever played and I was put off by the monthly subs but I got the game in the end because a few of my mates were as playing it, tbh that is the only reason why I played it. However, I think TOR has the potential to be far more interesting than WoW and I am tempted of coming out of MMO retirement
RPGS and MMORPGS have as much as difference as an PG-13 rating and an TV-14 rating. The only difference is that you have an shitload of people playing and with MMORPGS you pay monthly, so technically if you have any brains RPGs>MMORPGs Now you might ask 'why is having a lot of people playing with you an bad thing?' simply put, there are many rude and annoying people in MMORPGS, when it comes to games like RPGs I must say I prefer playing alone. Anyways its all subjective, if anyone is excited for this thats fine but I would of been happier with an KOTOR 3
Single player RPGs are almost nothing like MMOs... Paying for an MMO guarantees you a lot of different content and features (as well as gameplay experience as a whole) than a standard single player RPG. Don't whine about how terrible MMOs are just because your cheap ass doesn't want to pay for one.
aww did I hurt your feelings you pathetic little fanboy? Face it MMOs are SHIT what features? pvp? pffft, there are no differences, also people who usually play mmos for the most part have no lifes. Also I like how you call me cheap because I'm not willing to pay monthly for a fucking GAME. It's called common sense why would I pay monthly for a fucking shitty mmo when there are 100s of RPGs better then any MMO. I saw in your other posts on this topic you said that the game is gonna be good based on what you saw in the trailer... lets get one thing straight here if you believe a game is gonna be good right off the bat from seeing an trailer, YOU ARE A FOOL!
Hey, you're the one that brought up money in the first place. The only downside you've presented to MMOs is that they require a monthly payment, and that this clearly means that they are made for idiots. Some people like to play games with other people. Most players, I think. This contributes to the success of MMOs, who allow a measure of social interaction along with unique gameplay.
I have been following "TOR" since their website went live, and I am supremely excited. It is, indeed, an MMORPG, although Bioware is making it story-based, with 100% voice-overs for ALL characters. Their goal is to make this an MMO that even single-player gamers can enjoy. They have confirmed that you can play the entire storylines for each of the eight classes without ever grouping with another playable character. You get companions, just like in KotOR, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age. Anyways, I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I am careful to keep my hopes high. However, with what has been released so far, TOR may be one of the last games that I purchase in a long, long time. As far as subscriptions, you pay continuously so that the developer continues to support and update the game. If anyone is curious about this game, let me know. I'd be glad to expand upon it. Also, they released a 16-minute walkthrough that shows where the game is at visually and combat-wise. it's amazing.
I'll play it. Probably going to play either a trooper or a smuggler. I think that Jedi classes will be massively overplayed. If I can get into it, I'll shell out for sure.
