Just over the past 2 months i have witnessed/been affected by 2 sucides. One of them was my neighbour, It didn't really come as a surprise since he had allready tried once before so even though it was sad i somhow expected it. The second time was after a feild trip with my school we had been to the city and on the way back there is this train crossing and he just jumped right infront of the train. One moment the guy was there and the next moment he's just a mess. Our whole class just stod there in shock but someone called the abulance but every body knew the person was allready dead. I didn't know who the person was at the time but i later figured out that i knew him (not gona post any names) not well but he was in the class 3 years above me in elementry. These were not pleasant experiancess to say the least but I've never really talked about it to other people about it. So i was wondering how the fourm felt about the issue of suicide. (put this in offtopic cause didn't know where it should go)

I don't wanna seem like a constant bible thumper, but in Judaism, we learned that since the world supposedly came from one man, killing just a single man is like killing the world. Likewise, helping one is akin to helping the whole world. Anyways, killing yourself is like killing the whole world. A man can have endless power and potential, as the world has so wonderfully and grimly shows us.

Seeing as that threads last post was beyond the necropost limit it shouldn't be posted in anymore. On topic I too have been affected by someone committing suicide. Someone very close in my life killed herself a few years ago. So I certainly know what it's like to have someone you know commit suicide. I am against suicide very much, as it will usually hurt others who care about you. Her suicide was a heavy mental blow. As for doctor assisted suicide for those who are suffering very much, I was not talking about that as I am unsure but not really against it, simply talking about taking your own life.

In my opinion if people are that depressed to kill themselves then just go for. At least do it in a bad ass way for everyone else though.

    Che, I agree with you.

Suicide isn't about how others feel, it's about how the person feels & if they feel that life is too much why should we prolong their suffering? So that we can feel better? - that seems a bit selfish to me.

Suicide is in itself selfish as well. By disregarding how it would effect those that care about you, only caring to end it for yourself.

Both parties in this selfish game are guilty, but even though it is their decision to commit this act for whatever reason, I feel prolonging a persons depression and dread, just doesn't feel right & and much as you care for them, you have to consider their feelings and the fact they believe suicide will end their suffering because if you care for them & you want them to be happy and if this is the means to their happiness, so be it.

It really depends on the situation. Let me explain mine. My girlfriend (I'm bi) killed herself a few years ago. She did not seek help. She did not try to get me to help her. I would have. I would have done anything. She just killed herself. Was her decision in any way not selfish or right in any way? She didn't just stop herself from suffering, she caused me and her family to suffer extremely. A person should not commit suicide unless they have exhausted every other option.

Woah! that's heavy stuff - but anyway I agree that in some situations the person killing themselves is slefish but in others, just keeping said person from ending their suffering is also selfish because you're letting your happiness get in the way of theirs.

Simply put, I believe that committing suicide without exhausting every other option is completely wrong. If they do their best to get help and still can't go on then maybe.
