I know someone that tried to commit suicide... schizophrenia does that to you... and magic mushrooms do that to you. Anyway, he failed and now he is in a mostly vegetative state. I wonder if it would have been better for everyone if he had died?
I've actually had a discoussion about this before. We watch the Dead Poet Society (good movie) SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! We were talking about the suicide of the one student and I said he was being totally selfish, however, he probably didn't realise it. That's because in the movie, like in real life, Neil lived in the moment. Thus he couldn't see past the moment and all of his problems seemed eternal, not something that could be remedied in a couple of years. So, most suicidies don't think past their immediate action, which is selfish. Because when you think in the moment you only think of yourself.
I don't know how people who commit sucide feel inside but im pretty sure that its not all in the moment. I meen my neghibour had tried to commit suicide 2 times before. the 2 times he was barely saved by the people in the hospital. It was terrible for the family they never let the kid (he was 16) out of there sight. But my point is it probaly wasn't all in the moment since he tried 2 to times before he killed himself.
I believe he meant that they feel that this one moment, the one that pushed them over the edge, will last the rest of their lives.
The problem is that there are so many different hormones in our water and our food mixed with how unstable teenager's bodies are can lead to disatrous consequences. It may have been miserable for him to be so depressed when he wanted to be happy.
