I wonder what would've happened if Byzantium actually did accept the offer. Could've messed up history a lot if they held the city.
hell yeah no ottoman empire, turkey would never be formed and all sorts of things would happen and some wouldn't
No guarantees they'd survive the crusader attack after it, maybe they'd get eaten by Byzantium again, or fall to the timurids.
yes but the ottomans could have suffered such a defeat at the hands of the emperor's troops that it was a matter of rolling them back to Antioch and starving them out.
??? The real reason why religion is used is to start campaigns to regain lands that are sacred to that religion?
Its an impossable question becouse the answer is to far back in time to be recovered. Religion has always been a way for power hungry people to start and justify any war they want it can't be used anymore though becouse people are smart.
Not really, especially not in the Crusades. They weren't trying to loot the Middle East, they were trying to restore Christianity to it.
No, it was to "reclaim the Holy lands from the Infidals" and "give back God's children what was rightful theirs".
I find it weird how the last three crusades (7th-9th) where all led by King Louis IX of France. He really wanted success though it was marginal. I mean if his first two crusades had little to no success why would a third fair any better. Especially after the expenses of the other two.
