    Politically charged climate. And remember most historians write their conclusions based on eyewitness accounts and primary documents. Well, except the Roman Historians, who never researched anything and we have more falsehoods from them than we have truth.

    Do you guys see how massive that empire is? It encompassed the entire middle east besides arabia, that is a MASSIVE track of land. Plus all of the baltics, egypt, libya, tunisia, and parts of Algeria.

    They did their best, but they had their hands tied by a more and more religious and conservative government.
    They could have modernized, probably quite easily, they just didn't wanna modernize.

    Communism -
    1.) A theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
    2.) A system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.
    3.) The principles and practices of the Communist party

    How does the USSR not fit that description? It fits the definition, although it wasn't what many people want communism to be. However, that is not the same as what communism is.
