The US Afghanistan War was in response to 9/11. Not exactly...

Should we even be calling it that then? Not only is the idea of a war on terror is nonsensical but we've found out that the US was planning to invade Afghanistan before September 11th anyway.

It's a pastime we got a war on drugs and a war on poverty. War on Terror just fit the theme.

Every war could be called that.

2001-Present US Wars of Terror? Admittedly it's losing its brevity and it's limiting its use as a soundbite.

It was never supposed to be a brief conflict... That's why we called it that rather then a War against Al-qaeda or something alone those lines.

I know, I was just making the obvious point that the US is contributing to terror rather than stopping it. Little off-topic but I found out that from 2005 to 2010 the US has exported over 2 billion US dollars worth of arms and equipment to Colombia - regarded by many to be the worst human rights abuser in the Western Hemisphere. Human Rights Watch stated that military exports should be tied to human rights improvements. Proof if proof need be that the US is committed to the 2001-Present US Wars of Terror.

Fuck humanitarian aid we'll give you weapons. Lot's and lots of weapons, more weapons then you'll ever need or be able to buy otherwise. Then we'll give all of them to the corrupt central government who doesn't really like us too much in the first place. We'll do that with every third world country we have interests in. That will never come back to bite us in the but...

This is something I wrote about back in 2004, and I wish I could find the piece, I've been through so many computers since then that apparently my genius work will be lost forever. As a special treat though here's something I wrote in like 2006 for a civics class in high school:

    Executive Orders
    1) My first Executive Order would call for the creation of the department of the environment, which would be granted a permanent seat on the cabinet.

    2) My second Executive Order would declare that an increase in federal spending would be illegal without the balancing of the budget.

    3) My third Executive Order would establish a proper line of succession in the Supreme Court, by establishing a maximum age for a justice.

    4) My Fourth Executive Order would re-deploy the troops stationed inGermany toIraq.

    5) And my Fifth Executive Order would naturally be to erect I 280 million dollar monument of myself on the last Island in the Aleutians.

Which has more to do with the war on drugs and our efforts to stop FARC (who are forced into using drug money to fund their operations) then support for the Colombian government. Not that that isn't without grounds for criticism, but I'd put it into a different category then the war on terror.

I don't really distinguish between them. They all want to maintain US hegemony or expand it if possible. But I agree that going by official US terminology it would be part of the War on Drug Users/Producers.

Funny that they can fuck up the War on Drugs & Terror with just one war.
