I don't know why it isn't always counted as meat either. In cookbooks, meat, birds and fish are generally all different categories, although for vegetarianism, I think fish is excluded for some reason.

Chicken isn't meat, it's "gevogelte" (I don't know how to translate that) and I'm not sure about fish. But I think that vegetarians have problems with eating animels, not meat.

Poultry's the word your looking for. And I don't know, the only good reason for vegetarianism seems to be not liking the taste of meat, therefore vegetarianism doesn't exclude fish and poultry, which taste differently from meat. If you have a problem with eating animals, but not with things like leather, you need some damn good explanation for me to take that seriously. If someone gets all teary-eyed about people eating lamb, become a vegan and come to terms with the fact that people like meat.

Come to think of it, I more often than not can find a Mitchell and Webb video that applies to a situation perfectly:

Most vegetarians become one because they don't like how the animals are treated. And I kind of understand that because most of the animals are treated terrible. It's just that a few people not eating meat isn't going to change that.

That's one of the reasons I try to stay away from veil whenever possible.

i eat alot of meat from game like deer and pigeon.
its not really that inefficient since i dont have to feed them, i only have to pay for ammo and my hunting permit.
as for livestock, alot of the farmers i know have enough land to let their cattle graze without having to buy food
however im not sure how it is in the u.s.

Then they should become vegan. Animals aren't just being kept for food.

I know, but being a vegetarian is so much easier and I also think cheaper than being a vegan. And most people think vegans are crazy.

There are plenty of reason for being vegetarian other than being a hippie.
I'm a vegetarian because I don't like animals. That and the fact my parents are, but frankly, I don't want to eat anything that produces its own shit.

For a second I thought you were talking about Vegetarians ever rising up and destroying the meat-eaters, forcing them to eat tofu. Anyway, that would've been a much more interesting thread.

As if a forum member like me would mind that kind of ego-boost.

No, most vegetarians don't eat fish, most veggies are lactos-ovo(eat milk and eggs) or vegan(No animal products or byproducts). "I need bacon", "meat is tasty", "WAAA I NEED MY FUCKING MEAT!!" arent arguments, these are wussy statements. I am a vegan because I cannot support the outright exploitation of other species.

Soooo, I guess that means you are against lions hunting zebras correct? because I believe the lion is exploiting the zebra.

    True, true...

I've been wondering about that for some time as well. Not as much the exploitation part (as the lion hunts the zebra instead of capturing and raising it for its products), but the eating meat part.

So do tell me what are the animals good for if not for bacon.

True, I once again refer to the Mitchell and Webb video I posted. While it's comedy, it still brings up a very good point. There are only large amounts of cows, sheep, pigs and chickens because of humans. Humans have no need for animals they can't use for anything.

I thought massive cattle ranches were absolutely horrible for the environment or something? I'm pretty sure all the anti-environmentalists claim that cows produce as much greenhouse gas as factories or some silly statement.
And if say, the chicken is only still around because people love their nuggets, then that goes against the natural selection argument meat-eaters are so fond of.
