No. US would've lost face if they didn't and might've incurred more aggressive Soviet intervention. It was a lose-lose situation from the very beginning.
Also, everything the US military did for Afghanistan was learned from their experiences in Vietnam.

Do you see any reason that China would not do the same in Vietnam? Remember that the Vietcong were trained by the Chinese. The idea that they would go as far as to counter a U.S. invasion of N. Vietnam is not too much a strech you know.

Wow you guys are pretty fast :p, anyways i really always looked at it as a battle Against communism to show the USSR and China we wouldn't back down from defending so called democracy, and a great loss for us. Besides the french pulled a fast one on us by withdrawing as we sent in troops.

The truth is that we should have just stuck with our alliance with china, stayed on the defense and when we sent supplies to china they would attack from North while we legally helped :)

China actually hated them and only attacked us after we took so much land North, they thought we would invade them. We would attack Russia if they took so much land in Canda or Mexico.

We would never let a Russian soldier set foot anywhere in North America....
As soon as one Russian soldier stepped off a boat, it would be considered an act of war and we would meet him with a full nuclear strike!!!

'The enemy of my enemy is my temporary ally'
The Chinese and the Vietmanese in general have a mixed relationship. The Chinese regard the Vietmanese largely as they do everybody else: barbaric foreigners. On the other hand, the Chinese don't like the U.S. encroaching on their terrictory. It wasn't as publisized after the war in the West for some reason, but after the U.S. pulled out, the Chinese and the Vietcong ACTUALLY WENT TO WAR.

So no, they didn't actually like each other in reality. But they hated the U.S. more.
