Militarily it was a huge mistake in the approach, but I rarely if ever blame the generals/military in general. Its usually the politicians who screw over everybody, drawing otherwise peaceful countries into conflict. I'm sure that the generals did the best that they could with what they had, no matter what they regreted later.

I'd disagree just a bit. You see generals are the ones who push for staying and fighting (like today in Afghanistan) Its their job to make sure that job gets done and if general says its impossible to do, they will get the job to the one who believes in victory.

No, the generals are not in favor of staying and fighting, but, if they have to stay and fight then they want more troops.

The commanders didn't understand guerrilla warfare. They thought like it was WWII and there were battle lines and all that. They're not the ones I'm calling twats though.

The President would activly pick (dated) targets to bomb. Meaning he tried to micro-manage attacks. Of course he had little to no skill at doing so and the NVA were easilly able to move their stations faster then the President could place attacks.

Not to mention PR was handled terribly and the army wasn't cooperating with locals enough.
