It wouldn't hurt much, no. But compare it to an anthill. One ant is barely notable, thousands of ants can be a huge problem. We are the small players in the game, but together, we stand strong.

Even if our site is not that influential in the grand scheme of things it can't possibly hurt to do it for one day. Especially considering you can still watch the vids, just is a little more of a hassle.

Eh... The problem with places like reddit going dark, is everyone on reddit already agrees that SOPA and PIPA are bad. The idea behind something like this is to inform people of a perceived injustice in order to mobilize them towards action. The problem being in a case like reddit, is everyone is already aware of what's going on, and is already taking action (like not using companies the support SOPA, or calling their representatives).

Now the problem with our site blacking out is that most of the people of voting age already know about SOPA, and our user base is pretty small and even as a collective force were not going to singularly change anything.

I completely agree with Feybarts analogy. Internet censorship will affect us all, so it isn't worth not doing this.

Sign the petition, us going down in protest wont change anything as we're simply not relevant!

We're relevant to roughly 6,000 or so people, we can at least have pride in that.

I agree. It would probably be better for the site to just post giant signs saying, "SOPA is Unjust".

Who knows, maybe an US senator watches Stalin's videos, and bam!, one more on the opposition.

Again it isn't going to hurt. And maybe some people will read up on this this as a result, and sign a petition, or tell their friends about it. I'd say 24 hours of inconvenience for any possible good it may bring is worth it.

Won't make a single bit of difference whether we do it or not. But do what you want people.

This is dumb. You want SOPA to stop: lobby the Senate. This just makes the legitimate anti-SOPA/etc. causes look stupid and childish. Anyway, the most likely thing to happen with SOPA is that it is given limited to know use (like its predecessors), or if it is used, Google will probably just take it to the Supreme Court, where it will be deemed unconstitutional.

I think this is a fun little thing to do, what's 24 hours? You can still use a console, and watch T.V, right?

Why not, let's support this, only if it will not cause harm to the site.

It may be a fun little game to you, but these bills are calling into question the authority of my nation's constitution as opposed to the authority of those who are required to follow it.

It's not a game to us, it's a battle for our democratic liberties.

Well I'm certainly not going to take the site down without Stalin's say so & while if it was my site I wouldn't, I am not the one you need to convince.

Don't take that comment for lack of care, I know what'll be taken out of my daily routine if this has passed, and I would say that this is unnecessary and opposes some rights and freedoms as a Canadian, and I refuse to abide to an American policy that removes my rights and freedoms.

But why not try it? It's only for a single day, and on a Wednesday too. It's not about informing people, it's about showing we disagree to the plans. Even big sites like (likely) Google, (probably) Facebook and (almost for sure) Wikipedia are going to join. They would not do that if it wouldn't make a change.

We are an average site, but one coin isn't worth much, millions of coins are. We are that one coin in a million coins. It's not worth sitting back and not doing it.

How is it childish to show you disagree, and to show you care? And why would I have to travel all the way to the US to do something I can do just as effectively on the internet? And what if Google doesn't take it to the Supreme Court?

    I'm trying to convince everyone.
