    So, president Obama has just signed an executive order, giving the ability for the US president to nationalize all industry, institute martial law, and force any and all US citizens into the military via draft. This would give the US government ownership over pretty much everything in the US - Food, medicine, water, farm equipment - as well as scrap all constitutional rights. Why isn't this in the fucking news!? Sources -

    Edit: According to the wording of the article, this order will effectively Nationalize US citizens, making them literal property of the government.

    I'm going to keep a level head about this and not really say anything about this until more information comes out. What I will say is that I don't think this is as bad as you think it is Ler, and that this doesn't make sense. From reading this it reminded me of some of Stalin's edicts which he made while he was at war with Germany. It doesn't make sense for the president to sign such a order while no one is attacking America and he has nothing to gain from this politically or economically. That is why I will remain skeptical.

    Why would he sign such a thing if he didn't intend for it to be used? America isn't under threat from anybody, at least not on such a scale that would justify this. The first link is the white house's government page, you can read it there.

    I understand and I read the bill, but what I am saying is that I don't understand his motivation. Obama isn't a tyrant and I don't believe he has aspirations of being one. He has nothing to gain from this and everything to lose.

    There's no reason to draft right now. Unless of course Obama knows something we don't :p I have concluded that something like this would be far to much excitement to happen in my life time and thus will not occur.

    In my opinion, its not a big deal. I'm not going to worry or panic until there is an actual reason. At least its not giving him the authority to like shut down news an stuff. And anything he tried to do with these "powers" would cause the Supreme Court and Congress to nullify it and impeach him. I hardly think this is a step towards facism, and sounds much more socialist than facist to me.

    By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (50 U.S.C. App. 2061 et seq.), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code, and as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

    In accordance with section 710(e) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2160(e), there is established in the executive branch a National Defense Executive Reserve (NDER) composed of persons of recognized expertise from various segments of the private sector and from Government (except full time Federal employees) for training for employment in executive positions in the Federal Government in the event of a national defense emergency.
    Now I haven't read the entirety of 50 u.s.c. but what I can tell you it was passed in response to FEMA's inability to rapidly respond to Katrina. All this order is saying is that in times of war or emergency the president and his agencies has greater authority to respond to rapidly developing situations.

    The only thing I could find about a draft is the 2nd paragraph (quoted), which doesn't really refer to a draft for say. One, it is predicated upon a national defense emergency. Two, it's not talking about the population as a whole, it's talking about "persons of recognized expertise", meaning something akin to when we had our top scientists working on the Manhattan Project in ww2.

    Most of this thing has to do with explaining the roles and limitations of various federal agencies in the time of crisis, so I'd say the articles you're reading are being incredibly alarmist on this one. I would be more worried if this had passed under Bush, but the fact that it's Obama, at what could be the end of his term, and this being drafted in an election year to little or no coverage, has me believing it's not really a big deal

    It is quite alarming if they're going to use all the power it would grant them, would Obama will it (maybe something to do with Iran?).

    Also this is one of the most stupidest things the US did in the last century.

    If this shit will continue with Obama being in office for the next 4 years there can be a 2nd American revolution.I'M calling it.
