"The war to end wars" -H.G. Wells i think he was right because after the great war wars were never fought with honor again. Generals never really fight with their men and the soldiers die like they were pigs to the slaughter house. War for me is a war that is fought with honor and brains not brains only. I want to see your opinion on this. :| :|
I think the Great War would be by far the worst to fight in. You were more or less waiting to die in water filled trenches, getting shelled and gassed, not great is it.
There's nothing honourable about any war. Regardless of the circumstances, the end result is usually a lot of people getting killed.
I would say that ww1 had leaders far more detached and disillusioned from combat then future wars. ww1 was the pinacle of staff generals leading their troops into slaughter based of military principles and not the situation on the ground. One of the lowest points in humanity really. And where was the honor of gas attacks?
There was never any point to World War I. Also, the war would have erupted regardless of whether the Archduke was assaninated or not, that was kinda just an excuse for all those nations to go to war
"Fought with honor." When have wars ever been fought with honor? Also, very few generals ever went on the front lines. Most were closer to the battle because it was the best way to relay orders. In the era of chivalry, most generals did not have to worry about dying, they were worth more ransomed. The death of honor and "chivalry": the Battle of Agincourt, was only there because Henry killed nobles, even though all captured commoners were executed. No, there never was honor in war. It is just a myth.
Why do people want to romanticize war? Sure its fun to be in a war in a GAME, but in real life war is horrible, terrible, and the worst thing we could do to each other
World War I is like many wars. Mass casualties etc. etc. But there were 2 things in my mind that made WWI different from previous wars. Army's in that time still fought with cavalry charges, mass infantry assaults, and basically all the tactics they had been using since the 17th century (war never changes) But with the invention of machine guns, that lead to.... everybody horse and man, getting slaughtered (Somme) Also, there was no point to World War I. The soldiers didn't even hate each other, sometimes they would even walk over into no-mans land when they were not fighting, and talk, and even play soccer. I dont know any other war in history other than the civil war, where the soldiers were friendly with their enemy's, and did not hate their enemy's. WWI was a very unusual war.
i know its horrible most of my ancestors and me(i am 21 so im in the marines so i see fairly decent action my kills before my tour of duty was over was 58) went through wars
