    The U.S government doesn't import shit from China, corporations like Walmart do.

    First off @ The Shaw: One word: awesome

    @MrUnclepeanuts
    Good sir, are you quite sure that you understand how the world economy works? You realise that:
    1. The U.S. gets the majority of its oil from North America.
    2. The U.S. buys from Saudi Arabia because it is both economically and politically sound.
    Not only would invading Saudi Arabia for oil be political suicide, in the end it is not an economically sound move. The U.S. buys from them because as expensive as it is, it is cheaper than pumping it themselves and it is militarily sound. Pumping oil themselves would require them to pour money into the workers, which would drive up the cost. And incase of a war that cuts the U.S. off from Saudi Arabia, having never pumped the oil in the States, they could start doing that and ultimately have a stable supply.

    Realise that in the world economy, the U.S. walks a very fine line. They need influence in the Middle East. Israel is a start, but they need more. Solution? Buy oil from Saudi Arabia. In addition to having a stable foreign oil supply, the Saudi's become more reliant on the U.S. and thus they gain influence in the region. As for China, well, the U.S. needs the goods that China produces. It is far more safe to have your enemy economically tied to you than to let them have a totally independent economy.

    Politically, its suicide for 2 reasons:
    1. The U.S. is not the only one who gets oil from Saudi Arabia. Other nations on the 5 get their oil from them.
    2. Saudi Arabia is home to Mecca and Medina, the 2 most holy places in Islam. Want 1.8 billion Muslims to declare jihad on you? Invade Saudi Arabia. Every year literally hundreds of thousands if not millions of Muslims preform the Hajj, the religious pilgramage to Mecca which every Muslim must complete at least once in their lifetime.
