    Umm... that is like saying that if the whole of the Human Race desided to pool our combined potencial that we could be a Space Empire by now. Is it true? Probably. Is it likely? No. Saying that Japan has the capacity to expand throughout space is pointless, because so can all of the G-20.

    @Inquisitor
    You realise that the UNSC was more of a Military Dictatorship than anything else right?

    Well I think the Russian Federation is considered already a "Space Power" but all of there Cosmonaut projects are "school like" projects, yet the Baikanour Cosmodrone is still launching rockets into space even my Satellite provider (Viasat) is getting there Satellite launched by the Russians in Kazakhstan.

    I mean they have alot "FIRST!" achievements thanks to the Soviet Union, but can the Federation bring it up to par who knows?

    I really dont think people want to use money on this right now with all of those decifits and debt piling up, but my best guess would be China.

    Hopefully everyone will realize there are better ways to spend money than throwing it into the cold void of space.

    Satellites and telescopes are neat and all that but the rest of it is a waste of time. I'm sure you can think of more pressing issues.

    Why not? And would you say that colonizing mars is a more pressing issue than, let's say, world hunger?

    currently at the growth rates of humanity we would need much more farm-able land then we have now to solve world hunger. where is there more land? well there are currently 3 very good looking places to colonize that would allow us to send some of our population to and allow us to use those colony's for food production.

    and as to "why not?" well one that would make the ending of humanity a very real possibility. two our problems would only get worse and worse, such as world hunger.
