I said the start was plausible Imperial, lets not go into your opinion that the book was "racist". You have stated it before.

The U.S. would certainly back India if Pakistan attacked them first. The U.S. is only allies in name with Pakistan. Pakistan hates us.

Especially after we found a certain terrorist leader who happened to be hiding right down the street from their military academy.

    Probably not.
Neither would be willing to start it.

China would need quite the reason to enter into a war against the US, seeing as they do so much trade.
Try the rest of the world bidding China to join them to destroy the US. Anything lesser probably wouldn't work.

What if China gets confident enough to attack Japan; they're still pissed at them for WW2. By confident a I mean willing to risk the pact the US has with Japan.

Its called if China becomes a Democracy.

The government of China takes the trade over the blood feud, but the people don't.

Truely, a Democratic China would be a death sentence to Japan.

No I really don't think this is the case. It comes back to what I said about the North Korean government not actually being as crazy as people have been led to believe they are. Look at Gadaffi. When his regime started to collapse a whole lot of people were (perhaps justifiably) paranoid that he was going to deploy chemical weapons on his own people during the civil war and insurrection. He certainly had the capability to do so, but in the event he chose not to because the simple fact is that he wasn't as crazy-comicbook-evil as everyone made him out to be. In the same vein I really don't see the North Korean government deploying nuclear weapons that would easily do just as much damage to the North as the South in the even of some imminent collapse. Christ, it's not as if the hardliners in the Soviet governement decided in 1991 "fuck it, we're about to collapse, so we might as well just use all these nukes we have lying around because we've got nothing to lose, right?"

No. Sorry. Real life is not a Tom Clancy novel.

Hey! Tom Clancy novels are awesome! Especially the new ones! :p

And, um, guys. Your putting too much into trying to make these scenarios realistic when they're really not. Its WW3, in this day and age that's unrealistic all by itself. There are only like 3 countries in the world that could start WW3. And none of them are crazy enough to want to.

There are a lot more than three countries that would start world war 3. The two likeliest scenarios for a World War 3 I see has nothing to do with China, Russia, or America starting it...

Scenario 1: Pakistan and India go to war. One of the nations launches a nuke. India get backed by America and NATO. For whatever reason, China starts supplying weapons to Pakistan to fight the NATO-Indo coalition. Let's say America is run by some conservative wackjob. The conservative wackjob uses this as an excuse to declare war on China, and assuming Congress is ruled by conservatives, they approve a declaration of war on China. And then the rest is fairly self explanatory...

Scenario 2: North Korea goes to war with South Korea, or vice versa. And then basically the same thing as scenario 1 plays out.

And each of those requires either China, Russia, or America to go along with it. The world is a puppet playing to their ambitions. Except Switzerland. The Swiss are always neutral, they are going to rule the world after WW3.
