my plan would really depend on if the zombies are your classic zombie or runner zombies... we're all fucked if their runner zombies tbh..
First off pack my stuff. Axe, Chestrig, Food, H2O, Lighter, Knife & Jacket After packing I will ride to local hardware store take; Generator, altenator, planks, tools, car batteries, gas & hook and line Then I begin my trip to the west coast. There I will park by the dock and get my motor boat out. After that I pack it full of my stuff and go to some good island with house of some sort in it. In house I will put all my shit in place after witch I call my friends to come here. Right after that I start building water filtration system. Then a windmill that will produce electricity. After that I can just chill out, catch my food and get my water from the sea. Would I want/need to I will occasionaly go back to the mainland and probably scavange for some stuff.

Police station, loaded with weapons. Then I would find the highest place possibleand farm on the roof. There would be no need to barricade anywhere and I would rarely need a weapon because Zombies obviously can't walk up stairs. I would drape a massive banner outside some windows with "ANTI ZOMBIE AREA" to attract the attention of people. When I have enough people to go out I will hunt for various items that will help me stay alive. The people would also be vital so that I don't get bored to death with no social interaction, which would be my worst nightmare.

Get into a group of 4 people and trip someone when we're chased by zombies. When I'm out of people to trip I'll just dig three blocks down and cover the hole with dirt.
First order of the day of such news? Celebrate! Hooray, it's really happening! Then, down to the nitty gritty. Load up the truck with the guns and ammunition I have at the house. Grab some food and water (don't need a lot, there's tons of forage to be had plus hunting), take my camping gear, and take the jerry cans of fuel. Then get the hell as far away from large populations as possible. Depending on the state of affairs I may hit up the local armory for some better gear or just the local Wal*Mart for extra ammo and fuel cans on the way out of town. I'm not great on horseback so I need a vehicle to get around with until I learn (and secure a horse) so fuel is important to me. I'll probably remain solo, I don't trust strangers and have a feeling they'd cause more harm than benefit. You just have to write off family and friends. If they make it, great. But I'm not going to make the mistake of going to try and save them. It sounds cold, but it's the reality of the situation. My parents might do okay but aren't close enough to try and hook up with and my friends are the type to want to go to the inevitable government protection centers. And we all know that turns out badly. Plus, if I'm alone then I only have to worry about me. No stupid emotions getting in the way of logic and reason.
I would like to be with people I completly trust. In a small group of say four- five people. Besides if you are alone you are likely going to be robbed/raped.
In my situation there isn't anybody I would completely trust that I could feasibly team up with. Your situation may differ but I stand a better chance on my own. As far as fellow humans go at least, you can bet I'll have a dog or two shortly after heading out. You can't rob/rape someone you can't find. And if you're stumbling around near my chosen hideout I'm sure to find you long before you find me.

I'm dead. 97% Urban environment. Population density of 342 per square kilometre (886 per square mile). But if by some luck of the gods I make it. Supermarket, close the exits, sit it out.
